About Certifications etc.

Code of Sustainable Procurement

The Code of Sustainable Procurement has been established with the aim of reducing risks associated with the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the Osaka-Kansai Expo and promoting similar initiatives in society to leave a legacy in the fields of environment, society, and the economy. It applies to all goods, services, and licensed products procured by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition and Pavilion Operators in connection with the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Specific criteria have been set for agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products, among others.

Organic JAS

Organic JAS is a standard for agricultural production methods based on the JAS Law (Japanese Agricultural Standards Law) and is certified by a third-party organization according to criteria such as not using prohibited agricultural chemicals and fertilizers. Obtaining Organic JAS certification allows products to be labeled as "organic" or "organic-certified."

HACCP Certification

HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. It is an internationally recognized method for food safety management that involves continuous monitoring and recording of critical processes, particularly those related to preventing hazards, from the receipt of raw materials to the final product. HACCP certification is granted to facilities that implement this methodology, and it is typically verified by third-party organizations.

GGAP/JGAP

GGAP/JGAP is an initiative that follows proper procedures for producing agricultural products, manages the quality of products, and ensures sustainability. Third-party organizations certify each farm.

MEL

MEL is a logo given to seafood products and their processed goods that have been harvested and produced using methods that prioritize the sustainable use of aquatic resources and the conservation of the environment and ecosystems. Third-party organizations certify fisheries, aquaculture producers, and processing and distribution entities for each fish species and fishing method.

Green Certification

In 2022, the 'Green Food System Law' was enacted and enforced, aiming to realize the 'Green Food System Strategy' for improving productivity and sustainability in the food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industries. Under this law, prefectural governors certify business plans prepared by agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industries that reduce their environmental impact by decreasing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing other measures.

Osaka Eco Agricultural Products

Osaka Eco Agricultural Products are agricultural products cultivated within Osaka Prefecture with the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers reduced to less than half of the conventional levels. These agricultural products are certified by Osaka Prefecture and are considered safe and environmentally conscious.

Osaka’s Traditional Vegetables

The vegetables that have been cultivated within Osaka Prefecture for approximately 100 years or more. They are distinctive varieties and types unique to Osaka, with a clear historical record of their origins. These vegetables are still being cultivated within the prefecture, and their seeds and seedlings can be reliably obtained. Osaka Prefecture certifies such vegetables based on these criteria.

CFP (carbon footprint of product)

CFP is a system that converts the amount of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of a product or service, from raw material procurement to disposal and recycling, into CO2 emissions and displays the amount per product or service. The system is being used by a growing number of businesses, particularly those that are actively working to reduce CO2 emissions.

Osaka-mon Meihin refers to a certification program for a wide range of processed foods, including sweets, side dishes, alcoholic beverages, and seasonings, which have been cherished and loved in Osaka for a long time. These products are recognized as representative souvenirs and specialties of Osaka, and you are encouraged to explore the diverse and appealing selection.
